Cross Armory’s SAFE MAG is a modification, designed in California, for weapons in regulated states that require fixed magazines. The Cross Armory SAFE MAG works by releasing your magazine instantly when you separate the upper and lower receivers of your AR-15 or M4, without having to press a button.

Cross Armory’s SAFE MAG is intended to be consistent with the fixed magazine laws which state that your weapon must have a “fixed magazine” which has been defined as “an ammunition feeding device contained in, or permanently attached to, a firearm in such a manner that the device can not be removed without disassembly of the firearm action.” The firearm action of an AR-15 and M4 is housed in the upper and lower receivers. Separating the upper and lower receiver to release your magazine disables the firearm action.

Cross Armory’s SAFE MAG also allows for insertion of a new magazine when the upper receiver and lower receiver are closed, without bending or stressing the hardware of the weapon or of SAFE MAG.

Cross Armory’s SAFE MAG is a reliable, durable and easy-to-install magazine release. When paired with the Cross Armory’s QUICK PINS, magazine changes can be performed efficiently and with a minimum of inconvenience to the user.

FAQ – Frequently asked question:

What is the difference between each Safe Mag?

All the Safe Mag’s function the same way, by automatically releasing the magazine when you separate the upper and lower.  The different models (MIL/DPMS/AERO/2) differ in size and shape in order to fit various models of AR-15 and AR-10.
  • Safe Mag MIL-Spec is for MIL – Spec rifles only (not all AR’s are MIL Spec) and automatically drops the mag when you separate the upper and lower receivers.
  • Safe Mag 2 is designed for all AR-15’s and works and functions exactly the same as Safe Mag MIL-Spec, but it’s shape is a bit different so that it will fit on all styles of AR-15 type rifles
  • SafeMag AERO – is for AR-10 rifles that are made in the AERO style and size
  • SafeMag DPMS – is for AR-10 rifles that are made in the DPMS size and shape.

  1. Mario

I bought a safe mag and it wasn’t holding my mag up far enough to chamber a round without jamming. I did adjust the screws but that wasn’t working eather. I do have a ar15 pistol, just wanted to let you guys know. Thank you

      Mario,
Very sorry we didn’t respond more promptly. There are a few reasons this may be happening. It’s probably best that you give our tech support a call, 760-710-3101 ext 2. They can talk through the issue with you to see what adjustment will be best. If, for some reason, we are unable to help you to get it working correctly you are welcome to return it for a full refund – but I doubt this will be the case.

I have the same problem as Mario above. And there are numerous identical complaints on YouTube videos about the product. I own their other products and they are excellent. This one needs a redesign; the springs probably need to be replaced with shims.

Hey Adam, thanks for letting us know you are having trouble. We actually have several solutions to address this issue. It may also have something to do with your specific build. We created Safe Mag 2 for that very reason. It is more flexible for non-MIL-SPEC and custom builds. We will email you instruction and/or get you a refund or exchange right away. We want all of our customers to be 100% satisfied and we guarantee all of our products, or your money back.

First time at the range with this setup, I’m running a CMMG upper and Magpul 10/30 mags. I am also having the same issue with the mag not being held high enough for the round to feed. Also changing from Magpul to steel mags do not work, because the catch will not accommodate both.

      David,
As you have probably noted from other comments, a few others have run into this problem. The problem is that the top edge of Safe Mag that rests on the upper receiver is rotating too far forward. We don’t know why this is the case on a few models. The only solution we are aware of is to swap it out for a Safe Mag 2. Because Safe Mag 2 contacts the upper in a different location this problem is not possible. We will be happy to exchange your Safe Mag for a Safe Mag 2 if you wish. We can send you a return label over email. There is a David Wong who purchased Quick Pins and Safe Mag back in August. Is this you? If so, email us at sales@crossarmory.com and we’ll move this conversation off the public forum. is this the only gun on which you had the issue?

  4. Tianyao

I have the similar problem as above. It was either jam or not feeding into the chamber completely and easily turned into a double feed. Just frustrating for the day. Turned my crusader into Mr. jam of the day.

There is a good chance your AR will need SAFE MAG 2 instead of the MIL-SPEC version. Please email info@crossarmory.com or call 760-710-3101 and we will get you set up for an exchange or refund. We guarantee 100% satisfaction on all of our products and want to make sure we find the perfect fit for your AR. Thanks for reaching out and for letting us fix the issue.
